Hello from Franklin County, NC

Hello, My name is Darin Wilder from Franklinton, NC. I am the great-grandson of Leonidas Wilder and have access to a 200+ year history of the Wilder family in my area. From the tales I was told, my family moved to Franklinton from Johnston County in the late 1700's and purchased approx 600 acres. A lot of this land remains in the various Wilder families. I am the owner of the house that existed on the property when it was purchased in the 1700's. My father, John Lee is in the Book of Wilder's (aka Green Book of Wilders...because it was a green hardbound book.) that was printed back in the 1950's. I am very interested in tracing my line back as far as possible, even DNA testing if cost is not prohibitive. Thank you for building this website. Darin Wilder

Help requested

If anyone has information or can help lead me to my great grandparents or great, great grandparents- that would be wonderful. The only information I have on my grandfather (he is deceased) is Darwin Wilder DOB: 12-3-1921, was enlisted in the armed forces 1938-1946. His son, my father was Bruce A. Wilder and his other son is Gary S. Wilder. Darwin's mother was Hazel Wilder (Wilder by marriage) and she was born in Canada in 1894. I do not have her husbands name (father of Darwin) nor do I have any knowledge of Darwin's siblings. Any one with information- please email me! It would be so great to hear from you!! Emily Emily

Wilder tree

I am a granddaughter of Bettie Rilda WIlder (maiden name) of Franklin County NC. I have recently had more time to research my family tree and found it going back to the 1400's where that Wilder was a Lt or something like that for the English King who reclaimed his throne in the Norman Invasion. Hi Jim, My Name is Elizabeth Ann (Wilder) Eveland. I have never really known to much of the wilder side of my family and would like to. My mother doesn't know much and my father passed away when I was 10 years old. All i know is that my grandfather's name was Charles Wilder, they lived in Canisteo, NY. Where do i start? Trying to research my Wilder family ancestors...

Hello Jim: Thanks for having a terrific site. I don't know if I am a cousin, but I can share the following: My father's name was Carroll Sargent Wilder, born in Cape May Court House, NJ 1932. Died 8-2-77. Grandfather's name: Carroll Fredrick Wilder, whom I called Grampy Fred. He passed in the late 1950's or early 1960s. Grampy Fred was married to Texas Viney Haney, my grandmother in or around 1931. They married Christmas day. My grandmother, whose nick-name was "Tippy" died in the late 1990's. Grampy Fred has a brother, whose name is Horace. I know of no other siblings. My Dad often told me he would visit a farm in Maine, to visit his grandfather, but I don't recall his grandfather's name. I was told my grandfather's brother Horace was married to Mavis, and that they had a large extended family. Isaac Appleby - Maria Wilder

Jim - Just trying to do further research on my Wilder connection. Maria Wilder b. 22 Feb 1825 Madison co, NY married Isaac Appleby b. 18 Dec 1809 Madison co, NY. Maria died 12 Jan 1910 in Franklin co, IA, and Isaac died 4 Feb 1875 in Franklin co, IA. They were married in 1858 in Oswego co, NY. Maria may have married a Wilder before her marriage to Isaac, but not sure, as my great grandfather George Wilder Appleby, MD, was named for his mother - assume Wilder was her maiden name, but no proof. Any Maria or Isaac in your research? Greatly appreciate any information you may have and wish to share. Mike Mike Appleby
